 Reported speech (Discurso relatado)

 

-  is when we tell someone what another person said. 

 

- To do this, we can use direct speech or indirect speech. 

 

direct speech: 'I work in a bank,' said Daniel.

 

indirect speech: Daniel said that he worked in a bank.

 

Algumas palavras que "convertemos" quando vamos falar (reported speech)

 

Present Continuous - Past Continuous
Can - Could
Will - Would
May - Might

 

For exemple :

 

Exemplo 1

 

(Simple presente): I can't talk. I am working

(reported speech) : Geovanna told me she couldn’t  talk because she was woring.

 

Exemplo 2

 

(Simple presente): I will travel with you on saturday

(reported speech) : He said he would travel with me on saturday

Don't open the window

(Reported Speech): He told me not to open the window

 

The verbs used alot in (Reported Speech) are :

(Say and Tell) , in the past we are (said and Told)

 

- But there are many verbs that we can use , look :

Add, comment, explain, offer, state, admit, plain, hint, order, suggest, advise, confess, inform, point out, threaten, agree, confirm, insist, promise, warn, announce, continue, interrupt, protest, wonder, answer, cry (= shout), maintain, repeat, ask, demand, note, reply, claim, enquire, observe, shout

 

 

For Exemple:

Would you like a cup of coffee?

(Reported speech): He offered me a cup of coffee
